8 Reasons to Enter the RBSA Photography Exhibition

With just one week left to enter the RBSA Photography Prize 2021, we share our insight into how photography competitions support artists.

You can ,enter the exhibition until 16 June 2021, 4pm.

Recognition

Showing your work in an exhibition gives you a boost of confidence and opens dialogue about your work. Whether you’re an emerging or established artist, exhibitions are a great opportunity to get feedback on your photographic projects – especially after a year of lockdown.

Prizes

You have the chance to win top cash prizes of £1000, £500 or £250 for your work, to support you in continuing your practice. You can also win a solo exhibition at the RBSA Gallery, an opportunity to showcase your work in central Birmingham.

The RBSA Gallery is a platform for you to convey a message through photography and engage people in your work. The 2019 winner ,Lachlan Monaghan held an artist’s talk alongside his solo show.

Connect with people

Exhibitions are a brilliant way for new audiences to discover your work, to connect with other artists and gain recognition from the judging panel. After a year of social distancing, you can now show your work in a safe space and build relationships with the photographic community.

Show work physically

Exhibiting in a physical gallery is a different experience than sharing work digitally. The scale of your work is more tangible and nuances like texture and grain are visible.

Support the gallery

The RBSA is a charity that supports engagement with visual arts. Entry fees for exhibitions help us continue to provide opportunities for artists to exhibit and for visitors to stay connected with visual arts.

Introduce people to your practice

Photography encompasses a ,spectrum of different practices, from commercial to camera-less. This is a unique opportunity for you to introduce your practice to people who have never experienced photography in this way.

Entry process

The process of entering an exhibition can help you be critical of your own work. Take a deeper look at your work when selecting the strongest images and learn to articulate the context surrounding them. If your work is selected, the exhibition is a chance to talk in more depth about your work to others.

Be part of the RBSA community

We are thrilled to bring together talented artists from the UK and abroad for the RBSA Photography Prize exhibition. Our commitment goes beyond just the exhibition, we build relationships and champion exhibiting artists on our social media, blog and website throughout the exhibition and for years to come.
