The Print Prize Exhibition this year will be accompanied by a RBSA collection display of works by Robert Ball RBSA (1918 – 2008) who was recognised as one of the great British printmakers of his generation. The son of a Birmingham silversmith, he entered Moseley Road Junior School of Art at the age of twelve. Robert’s amazing talent for drawing gained him a place in Birmingham School of Art in 1933 where he was left to work at his own pace, without instruction. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in 1940 and returned to his native city to teach Drawing and Anatomy before being appointed Principal of Stroud School of Art. The exhibit will feature outstanding examples of Ball’s work in etching and wood engraving recently donated to the RBSA Archive.
