Cornwall-based landscape artist Andrew Barrowman ARBSA primarily works en plein air, often exploring ‘off the beaten track’ in his daily sketching routine, seeking out alternative views of familiar places. While his studio is based at Krowji in Redruth, My Warwickshire represents an evocative return to the landscapes of his youth.
This exhibition brings together twenty oil paintings produced directly on location along the rivers Avon and Dene, the Stratford canal, and local country lanes. Working in oil en plein air, Andrew embraces the challenge of the changing elements, translating immediate atmospheric shifts into painterly brushwork and rich texture. Synthesising years of preparatory outdoor sketches with live observation, these pieces capture fleeting moments in time. The collection stands as a testament to the technical challenges of working from life, mapping the physical and nostalgic routes that connect the artist back to his roots.
Andrew is a full member of The Pastel Society in London and an Associate member of the RBSA. He was awarded The Artist Magazine prize at the 2024 Pastel Society exhibition and the Bowyer Drawing Prize at the 2021 NEAC exhibition.
