Patrick O’Donohue has over 30 years’ experience as a ceramic artist and potter. He studied at Wolverhampton University from 1989, gaining a BA Hons in 3D Design Ceramics and later returned to complete an MA in Art and Design. He also studied a PGCE in Education and went on to teach Art and Design for over 20 years at Colleges in the Black Country and Birmingham and held the position of Head of Art and Design at Joseph Chamberlain College for 10 of those years.
Patrick still works as a Senior Leader in post 16 education but since his family have now grown up, he also works from his home studio producing ceramics for exhibitions and for private commissions. He exhibits his work both regionally and nationally at major ceramics shows.
Patrick creates distinctive and refined wheel-thrown pottery that captures the essence of abstraction. His recent work explores the beauty of darkness and the night as a time for quiet contemplation and reflection and his painterly pieces reference shadows and disappearing light, inspired by the images that remain as shapes or a glimpse of colour informed by memories and imagined forms. He captures images that can blur or sharpen in the changing light, that are distorted by shadows and abstracted by his own perceptions and ways of seeing.
