Anne Irby Crews has had a varied career, working at Pinewood Film Studios, in theatres, as a window dresser, and for the Arts Council. She has also taught for many years, most recently at Solihull College of Technology.
Anne was elected as an Associate of the RBSA in 1999, and a Member in 2000. Her work has been exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy Summer Show. She has staged several solo shows at venues such as Lichfield Cathedral.
Her main medium is printmaking. In 2009, Anne was one of three artists chosen to develop a new Metro tramway poster. Inspired by the natural world, myths and legends, woodcut is Anne’s favourite medium. Her work explores ideas about appearances, or the meaning of symbols and visual messages. She has also produced a series of icons inspired by a visit to Russia.
