About This Exhibition
The RBSA Summer Show is the Society’s biggest open call of the year, inviting artists working in all techniques and media, including photography and digital, to submit work. This exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for artists to showcase their work in Birmingham’s foremost contemporary art gallery with an art society with over 200 year’s history of supporting artists and promoting the visual arts.
Selection for the exhibition is by an experienced panel of RBSA Members and Associates and will be made based on the a digital image of the original artwork only. All works entered go through the same anonymous selection process. The selection is based on the assessment of the quality and interest of each work.
All artists can enter up to three pieces of work. RBSA Members and Associates are invited to enter up to three works and are guaranteed that at least one work will be selected for the exhibition. Graduate Artists may enter one work which will be automatically selected for the exhibition.
We welcome entries from professional and emerging artists based locally, nationally, and internationally.
The following prizes will be awarded:
- First Prize £600
- Second Prize £300
- Up to six highly commended certificates will also be awarded
All prizes kindly donated by Clive Beardsmore, Friend and long time supporter of the RBSA.
A catalogue featuring all works will be published alongside the exhibition.

Before entering, please ensure that you have read and understood everything outlined in the exhibition pack, and that your work adheres to our terms and conditions.

Payments
- Payments can be made on this page using the links below.
- Links for display fees (payable by selected Friends only) will be added below once artwork has been selected.
- Card payments can be taken at the Gallery or over the phone, the Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 10.30am – 5.00pm.
- Please phone the Gallery to pay over the phone if you are under 35 and eligible for the 50% discount.
- All entry fees must be paid by Tuesday 5 May, 4.00pm otherwise work will not be considered for selection.
- All display fees (selected Friends only) must be paid by Thursday 28 May 4.00pm otherwise work will not be included in the exhibition.
- Please note that all entry and display fees are non-refundable.
- Free for RBSA Honorary Members and Graduate Artists.
International artists please note, if your work is selected, we require proof of postage via email by Thursday 28 May.
Images of artwork
When submitting artwork, please ensure that photographs of the work are at least 2000 pixels across the smallest dimension and 300dpi in resolution. Image files must be JPG.
