Paul Turk

Paul Turk is self taught and, after a career in the finance industry, he decided to focus on his passion for art which had laid dormant for many years. From 2017 he embarked on a series of art master classes, including the highly acclaimed Rome Workshops run by BP portrait awarded Artist Sean Cheetham.

Primarily a portrait painter based in Solihull, West Midlands, Paul is inspired by both local and international artists, having studied the portraiture of a number of LA-based painters in particular.

Paul’s portraiture work is defined by a dramatic interplay of light and shadow, producing images with striking depth and visual impact. To achieve this effect his process can vary from painting from life to meticulously setting up impactful lighting for his subject in the studio.

Paul enjoys the challenge of a portrait commission, figurative pieces, and seascapes. Having studied at St Ives Painting School, he has visited a number of artists studios and paints seascapes “en plein air” there on a regular basis.

Selected open exhibitions include: the RBSA Prize Exhibition 2020 and 2022 and the Ikon for Artists event in Birmingham in 2021.

Finally, Paul is a keen visitor to numerous art events and exhibitions, travelling widely, and enjoys sharing knowledge and celebrating art with his peers.
