Mike Salt

For many years Mike Salt has drawn inspiration from the dark, often bleak, Pennine landscapes he grew up in. A combination of quiet solitude, power and melancholy, grey skies, and an earthy restricted palette.

After completing a BA hons degree in Birmingham, Mike worked in design and advertising as an art director and illustrator. As a professional artist, he works in oil, acrylic, watercolour, and pastel, and enjoys mixing media to achieve texture and tone. His subject matter is varied – from dark brooding moorland landscapes to strong and sensitive portraiture.

Mike is a past president of the Northampton Town and County Art Society. He has frequently exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists, and with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, with whom he was an award winner, ​​​​​​​and has shown work at the Gallery Holt in Norfolk, throughout the Pennines, and in Northamptonshire.
