Colin Kerrigan

In a long and distinguished career, Colin Kerrigan has created award-winning sculptures, many of which are housed in collections around the world.

He believes that, in a world dominated by the virtual and transient, the power of sculpture is constant. It resonates with the viewer on a much deeper level, conjuring a metaphysical meaning on both a human and architectural scale. Furthermore, sculpture is able to reach out to people, instilling a sense of physical, emotional and intellectual connection – a special dynamic that consumes his practice.

While working as a studio assistant for Anthony Caro, Kerrigan realised that one of the most important things is to keep an open mind to the limitless possibilities presented during the process of making, whilst simultaneously engaging in an empirical cycle of thinking and rethinking. The idea that inspiration can stem from anywhere and anything is fundamental to
his creative process.

Recurring themes within his work explore ideas related to time, inside-outside, otherness and points of transition. Kerrigan is inspired by the unfolding narratives and endless permutations and interactions between form and space in both urban and natural landscapes.

Although he has considerable experience of working in welded and fabricated steel, more recently he has expanded his range of materials by incorporating various casting techniques and 3D printing procedures.

Colin Kerrigan’s ultimate aspiration is to create works that go beyond the prevailing artistic trends, conveying profound meaning that can be fully realised only through the unique expressive capacities of sculptural form.
