About Layla Tutt ARBSA
Layla Tutt has worked her hands in wax and dye for over 17 years and the ancient resist technique of batik continues to surprise and delight her. Taking her inspiration from Mother Nature, Layla is also heavily influenced by 1960’s/1970’s fashion, music, design, and most recently by the vibrant works from that era created by Trinidadian textile designer/artist Althea McNish.
Combining a mixture of traditional ‘tulis’ (hand-drawn) batik using tjanting tools, dip-dyeing and experimenting with poster paints and brushes, Layla has enjoyed exploring impressionism, abstract design and groovy pattern using a colour-rich palette and a sense of fun.
Layla is also a skilful songstress, fashioning tunes to groove to, tunes to move you. A lover of assonance and dissonance, she is thrilled by rhythm and rhyme. Percussive, ferocious guitar strings and haunting, ethereal vocals; she’ll pull and pluck at the heartstrings, sparking up the spirit and soothing the soul.
Her printed greetings cards, such as The Garden Card, are wonderful gifts for your loved ones.
