Much of Sally Brookes’ work is multi-media based. Her pieces express her initial interest and exploration of collage as a medium and involve texture. Often there is a range of materials in one piece: resin glue, recycling of materials and references to textiles.
A particular underlying theme seen in the art-work is the simplification of forms and often a linear emphasis within compositions. Sally’s inspiration comes from a range of sources but particularly the Arts & Crafts movement for stylised simplicity; Picasso and his ability to recycle and involve a range of media and collage. Artists like Victor Pasmore and Peter Doig create play colour within a composition – most of which relate to landscapes.
