Guy Chapman, born in Aden, South Yemen, is a self-taught artist known for his keen attention to detail. In the 1990s, while employed by a record company, he had the privilege of creating portraits for some renowned musicians. Fast forward to 2016, he made the leap to becoming a full-time artist after a career transition due to redundancy.
The core of his artistic vision revolves around igniting the imagination through the creation of visual narratives that speak to each viewer individually—a “story without words” awaiting personal interpretation. He is drawn to unconventional and whimsical concepts, fantastical realms, and the allure of steampunk aesthetics—anything that taps into the boundless realms our minds can conjure. His creative journey has been profoundly influenced by literary giants like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, whose works have been a wellspring of inspiration for his own artistic endeavours.
Guy is a regular exhibitor at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern during the RHS’ Spring and Autumn shows, Leamington Spa’s annual Art in the Park, as well as Warwickshire Open Studios. Additionally he can be found showcasing work each December at the NEC’s ComicCon. He has also exhibited work in London’s Brick Lane, Olympia, Brighton and Sheffield.
Since 2016 Guy has been an active member of the Leamington Studio Artists (LSA). In 2023 he was elected to full membership status with the Cotswold Craftsmen, a recognised professional guild. That same year his talent shone at the RBSA’s Open Exhibition where he was awarded a Highly Commended and, again at the RBSA’s 2024 Friends Exhibition where he received three more Highly Commended awards.
In April 2024 Guy’s work was further acknowledged when he was successfully elected as an Associate of the RBSA.
