SUMMARY:Steve Butt ARBSA
DESCRIPTION:In his new works\, Steve Butt moves away from the representational and contemplates semi abstract imagery. The theme of the urban environment and nature still remains\, but now there is a sense of ambiguity and tension between form and recognizable appearance. The paintings tread a fine line of what is and what could be. \nExhibition closes: Saturday 2 May 5.00pm \nFeatured image: Steve Butt ARBSA\, The Sentinels \n

SUMMARY:Simon Conolly RBSA
DESCRIPTION:Sea and Sky \nSimon Conolly’s Sea and Sky assembly of works reflects two distinct influences upon his artistic development. \nSimon was born and raised in Portsmouth on the South coast of England. The sea\, the harbour\, and the tidal creeks dominated the landscape. The fluid movement and constantly changing patterns created by fish in numbers gave a regular source of ideas and inspiration. \nSimon now lives in land-locked Shropshire. But similar patterns can be observed in the sky. Birds in numbers can produce the same sense of fluidity and form. \nSimon is a Member and Honorary Curator of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA). He is also a Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA). \nExhibition closes: Saturday 2 May 5.00pm \nFeatured image: Simon Conolly RBSA\, Blue Planet \n

SUMMARY:Jodie Wingham ARBSA
DESCRIPTION:Jodie Wingham is an artist\, predominantly based within the field of printmaking\, where her work seeks to challenge the constructs of the medium itself through an investigation into the nature of looking. Since graduating\, her work has been selected for shows across the United Kingdom\, she was a finalist for the BBA Gallery\, Berlin Art Prize in 2025 and selected for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition 2021. \nWingham’s work combines many forms of printmaking to create artworks that playfully distort images\, where both found images and her own creations are cropped and edited to focus on actions. Inspired by the act of observing others and the audiences’ enjoyment of this process she focuses on the viewers desire to look and gain information\, often using imagery with voyeuristic tendencies. \nExhibition closes: Saturday 2 May 5.00pm \nFeatured image: Jodie Wingham ARBSA\, The Kiss  \n

SUMMARY:RBSA Candidates Exhibition 2026
DESCRIPTION:The RBSA Candidates Exhibition features the work of artists wishing to be elected to the Society\, either as Associates or\, for existing Associates\, full Members. The current Membership is able to view the exhibition and vote for the artists they would like to see successfully elected. The exhibition is also open to the public\, which provides an exciting opportunity for visitors to see the high standard of work by prospective RBSA Members and Associates. \nAll candidates are asked to submit six works as part of their application. Existing Members and Associates who visit the exhibition are able to vote for their choices in a secret ballot. To be successfully elected\, each candidate must receive 50% +1 of the total votes cast in favour of their candidature. \nLast year\, the Society welcomed 16 new Associates\, and four Associates progressed to become full Members. All new additions to the Membership help strengthen the Society and ensure that it is able to continue supporting artists and promoting the visual arts. Those artists elected as full Member also donate a diploma piece from their exhibited works to the RBSA Permanent Collection\, cementing their part in the Society’s long history. \nExhibition closes: Saturday 2 May 2.00pm \nFeatured image: RBSA Candidates 2026
