About This Exhibition

The RBSA Gallery is proud to present the first ever RBSA Young Artists Prize. Open to children aged between 4 and 17 from across the city of Birmingham, Sandwell District, and Solihull, this free to enter exhibition aims to give the region’s young creatives a taste of what it’s like to be an artist and the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in an established art gallery.

Artists will be split into four age categories; 4 – 6 years, 7 – 10 years, 11 – 14 years, and 15 – 17 years, and age will also be taken into consideration within these age groups. The focus of this exhibition is on imagination and creativity, and we welcome work from young artists working in any media, in 2D only, excluding photography and digital work. Artists can submit one piece of work with a maximum size of A3.

Through this exhibition, the RBSA hopes to welcome a completely new audience into the Gallery, and break down perceived barriers to allow more people to enjoy and access art.

Selection for the exhibition will be made by digital image and every artist that is selected for the exhibition will receive a certificate. There will also be an overall prize winner in every age group.

Judging the exhibition will be:

  • Ed Isaacs PRBSA – RBSA President
  • Ruth Millington – art historian, critic, writer, and author of children’s book This Book Will Make You An Artist
  • Karolina Korupczynska – Co-founder and Director of Stryx Gallery
