Supporting the artists of the future!

25 June 2015

Last week was full of private views for student shows. Our staff members couldn’t catch them all, but they did manage to attend those at Margaret Street, the School of Jewellery, the new Birmingham City University campus, Lordswood Girls School, and Perry Beeches II Free School. The range of work was as interesting as ever, and it was inspiring to see such a variety of skills and ideas on display.

The aims of the RBSA are detailed in our Articles of Association, which were set out in 1912. These are: to nurture engagement with the visual arts, to encourage participation in the visual arts, and to support artists in the development of their practice. As part of these objectives, the RBSA has donated prizes to several local student exhibitions. This year, we were fortunate enough to be invited to select prize-winners from the School of Jewellery’s Degree show, Lordswood Girl School’s Fine Art and Photography Show, and the Perry Beeches II Fine Art Show. The prizes included exhibition opportunities, workshop vouchers, and Friends subscriptions. We are delighted that each winner was so enthusiastic about the RBSA and look forward to welcoming them to the Gallery as they take full advantage of their prizes.

The overall aim of this engagement with local art students is to help support them to achieve a career in the arts, and to encourage them to establish a long-term relationship with the Society so that we can continue to thrive. So, it has been a busy and exciting few weeks… We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
