RBSA Student and Graduate Prizes

Supporting the next generation of artists

June is was an exciting time for the local art scene because there was the annual flurry of end-of-year art shows in schools and graduate art shows at universities. To help support the next generation of artists, the RBSA has helped some local schools and universities to select prizewinners, and has donated some prizes.

This year we donated a gift voucher as a prize to Lordswood Girls School. Their annual end-of-year show is always of a high standard and this year was no different. The winner of our prize was Saylah Hussain for her thoughtful drawing, which was based on the subject of her family and their different responses to wearing a head scarf.

Alongside the Lordswood show, David Walton RBSA was a guest for the Selly Park Technology College for Girls end-of-year show. David presented the winners with their awards and provided feedback on the quality of the work shown.

This year we have also continued our relationship with the School of Jewellery and selected three winners for our 'Creativity and Innovation' prize. We have been delivering this prize for several years and are always impressed by the exciting range and professional quality of the work on show. Each winner will exhibit some of their designer-maker jewellery in the RBSA Craft Gallery from 25 September until 28 October.

With so many great examples of creative talent on show this year, we hope each young person can develop their art career and look forward to seeing their work in the future - hopefully as an entry to an RBSA Gallery exhibition!
