Gillian Lockwood

Born in Kent, Gillian studied Graphic Design at the Royal College of Art. She worked as a Senior Graphic Designer before studying ceramics at Richmond Adult College. She was elected as an associate of the RBSA in 1996 and as a member in 1999. Gillian exhibited widely in London before moving to the West Midlands, where she has exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy and the Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry. Prizes won include the Mid Art Sculpture Prize and the Herbert Art Gallery Purchase Prize. Gillian works mainly in porcelain creating containers (bowls and boxes) with applied figures. Her pieces address various subjects and situations. Gillian also produces stoneware using the shapes and textures of plants and seeds as inspiration. In addition, she experiments with a reconstruction of a 200BC wood kiln. This primitive form of firing produces unexpected and exciting results. Gillian does not accept commission.
