Mary Griffin

After a year at Teacher Training College, Mary worked for Barclays Bank and studied art in the evenings. She gained a degree in Fine Art from Birmingham Polytechnic and a PGCE in Art Education. She has taught art at Lichfield College and has set up community art projects. Her current initiative is the Cruck Art Group which provides a programme of art workshops for all abilities. She has exhibited throughout the region and, in 2006, was awarded First Prize at the RBSA Prize Exhibition. Mary’s current work focuses on figures within interiors. Narratives are left to be interpreted by the viewer. The people who feature within her work often remain isolated in their own company, left to contemplate their lives. Mary aims to create paintings that depict life - as it really is, but to discover new ways of expressing this.
