Margaret Fairhead
Freelance Textile artist, inspired particularly by the textural possibilities using computerised sewing machines, and with Or Nue hand stitching techniques. Member of Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Birmingham Art Circle, Embroiderers' Guild, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield Societies of Artists and Midlands Textiles Forum. Member of 'Design for Stitch Advanced Workshops' with Jean Draper, consultant. Exhibited in the Midlands and nationally. The design source for pieces in this exhibition was a study of still life centred around fruits. The background and images in the pieces displayed are worked entirely by machine, using techniques to enhance the colours in both in a painterly manner. The exploitation of textural effects achieved on the machine, and the interaction of colours, are both paramount in my work. Hand stitched pieces are worked to designs emanating from the larger pieces – and provide miniature images of some of these. Workshops and talks given to Embroidery and Art groups by arrangement.
