Helen Appleby

Helen is a textile artist. She uses paint, ink, paper, silk, organdie, organza and muslin. She stitches by hand or machine using fine threads. Sometimes she adds wrapped canes and pressed flowers to the pictures or books that she makes. Gardens and landscape influence her work. The delicate fabrics and tiny stitches give an impression of nature's fragility To convey the intricacies of nature she creates highly wrought surfaces. Her work dwells on the structure and shape of the forms she interprets. She aims to make elegant and beguiling compositions. Helen is a member of several textile groups and of the Birmingham Art Circle.
