Young Friends
Summer 2010 sees the launch of the RBSA Young Friends' programme!
The Young Friends is aimed specifically at local young people aged 8-12 and families interested in regular art workshops that deliver more long-term in-depth experiences and a greater range of content. Young Friends' workshops will include alternative activities, such as storytelling, and teach a variety of art and craft techniques. They will, therefore, differ from the Family Friendly workshops since they will offer a programme of more unusual and challenging activities. The intention of the Young Friends is to engage young people and their families in
the arts and crafts, teach a variety of art skills and help them develop a lasting relationship with the Society and Gallery.
To celebrate the launch of the Young Friends, the RBSA Gallery will be running an exciting series of six ‘taster’ workshops throughout August and early September 2010 to give people an idea of what will be available to those who join. Each workshop will be based on the Once Upon a Time… exhibition (on view in the RBSA Craft Gallery from 26 July to 10 September) and will be led by an RBSA Member or Designer/ Craftsperson. Each workshop will begin with a story session, followed by an art or craft workshop. A range of skills will be covered including wire sculpture, collage and a variety of printmaking techniques. At the beginning of 2011, the work produced will be exhibited in the RBSA Gallery with a special opening event for Young Friends and their families.
This promises to be a fun, friendly and educational programme. Whether you are looking for something creative to do as a family or want to encourage your young budding artist, there is something to suit all interests and skill levels. So, why not try out a Young Friends' workshop this Summer and see what there is to enjoy. Check out our Young Friends' programme for more details. Join us now!
